π Local Knowledge
Nine Palms in Baja Sur is a fairly exposed reef and point break offering consistent surf, with summer providing the optimum conditions. The right-hand reef mainly receives groundswells from the south and performs best with offshore winds from the northwest. Even when the waves are up, the spot is unlikely to be crowded. Surfers should watch out for hazards such as sea urchins, rips, rocks, local surfers, and pollution. The best conditions occur when a south swell combines with a northwest offshore wind, with the most reliable clean, rideable waves typically found in summer, especially July.
