Los Frailes in Baja Sur is a quite exposed reef break with fairly consistent surf that mainly works when distant groundswells arrive from the southeast, and performs best with offshore winds from the west‑northwest. The break predominantly offers left‑hand waves breaking over an uneven reef and sand bottom, and it’s rarely crowded. Surfers should be aware of hazards typical to exposed reef breaks, including sharks. The best conditions reported for surf at Los Frailes occur when a southeast swell combines with an offshore wind direction from the west‑northwest, and the most consistent clean, rideable waves are typically found in summer, especially in July.
