📍 Local Knowledge

Karekare, West Coast Auckland: An exposed beach break with fairly consistent surf, though summer is often flat. The break offers both left and right-hand waves, with groundswells and windswells equally likely. Ideal swell direction is southwest, and the best wind is offshore from the east. Be cautious of rips, which can make conditions dangerous. Optimal surfing conditions occur when a southwest swell coincides with easterly offshore winds. Most consistent clean waves are found in autumn, particularly in March.
