📍 Local Knowledge

Ocean Cape in Mainland, Alaska is an exposed reef and point break that works only occasionally, with the best surf conditions occurring when a west-southwest swell meets offshore winds from the northeast. The spot receives both windswells and groundswells, producing a mix of left and right-hand waves over the reef, along with a distinct left-breaking point wave. While summer may offer some favorable days, winter—particularly February—is typically the most reliable season for clean, rideable surf. Ocean Cape is rarely crowded, but surfers should be alert to hazards like extreme rips and exposed rocks.
