Dauphin Island Pier in Alabama is a fairly exposed beach break with quite consistent surf, especially during the hurricane season. It performs best when a south-southeast swell combines with offshore winds from the north-northwest. The waves here are mostly from local windswells rather than distant groundswells. The beach break offers both lefts and rights and is rarely crowded. Surfers should be cautious of rips and undertow. The best time for consistent, clean waves is during Winter, with February being the most reliable month.
